Mountain Climbing

From $ 1499

The Marangu route, also known as the "Coca-Cola" route, is the oldest and most popular routes to the summit of Kilimanjaro. It is unfortunately less scenic than the other routes because the ascent and descent are along the same path. Also, the most crowded route for that reason. The reward at the top is more than worth it: Shared hut accommodation forms one of the main differences, compared to the other routes. It offers you the relative luxury of being able to sleep in huts along the entire route. Get the feeling that you haven’t just reached the top of the mountain—you have achieved something deeply essential to yourself.

Arrive this evening into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) where you will be warmly welcomed. A guide will meet you and transfer you to the Moshi Town comfortable lodge. Relax in the open-air lodge, enjoy the breeze as you lounge on the open verandah, or take a swim in the stunning pool.

  • Meals Plan: Lunch and Dinner
  • Accommodation: Mountain Inn, Honey Badger Lodge, Keys Hotels

DAY 2 - Trekking orientation and acclimatization.

We’ll start our climbing orientation just after breakfast this morning. The rest of the day is for exploration and adventure. Beautiful views of Kilimanjaro’s peak shine through on clear days. We stroll next door to see the terroir and organic cultivation at Machame Estate tea and coffee farm. Taste the difference with a proper cupping of many varieties of teas and coffee. After lunch, we’ll stretch our legs on a walk to a nearby waterfall. The meandering trails pass coffee trees and streams under shady glades of magnanimous hardwoods.

  • Accommodation: Mountain Inn, Honey Badger Lodge, Keys Hotels

DAY 3 - Hike through bamboo rainforest to Mandara Hut, near the forest line

After a sumptuous breakfast, we depart Moshi for Marangu Gate for the necessary formalities before beginning our trek. The hiking trail begins by ascending a beautiful, bamboo rainforest. At the upper edge of the forest line, keep your eyes open for blue monkeys then opens up to hillsides of heather and temperate forests. If time and weather permit, a short walk from Mandara to Maundi Crater is worth it.

The trail offers inspirational views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Birdlife is also abundant in the Horombo area. Afterwards, plan to be back inside the lodge with a cup of tea and good book.
